Jemaa el Fna Square LIVE – Medina in Marrakech, Morocco

This is our experience in the famous Jemaa el Fna Square in Marrakech. The pressures to separate us from our money were great and that part we did not enjoy. It’s interesting, but hard to have fun and somewhat over-touristy. We both got good haircuts there, though. And some areas, deeper in were definitely more relaxed. I think you just have to get beyond the tourist area.

Visitors to Jemaa el Fna Square can expect to see a wide range of street performers, including musicians, acrobats, and snake charmers. The square is also home to numerous food stalls, where visitors can try traditional Moroccan cuisine. Visitors can also explore the surrounding souks (markets) and take a stroll through the old city. But be aware that if you pause for even a short time, or take any pictures of performers you will be expected to pay – as much as they can get away with asking for. Bargain hard.

How can I get to Jemaa el Fna Square?

Jemaa el Fna Square is located in the heart of the old city of Marrakech, and can easily be reached on foot from many areas of the city. It is also accessible by car or taxi, and there are several parking lots in the surrounding area.

What can I find around the Jemaa el Fna Square?

emaa el Fna Square is surrounded by a number of important landmarks and attractions. Visitors can explore the souks (markets) that surround the square, visit the Bahia Palace and the Koutoubia Mosque, or take a stroll through the Jardin Majorelle. Additionally, there are also several traditional hammams (bathhouses) and riads (traditional Moroccan houses) in the surrounding area where visitors can relax and take in the local culture.

Are there any special events or festivals held at Jemaa el Fna Square?

Yes, there are several festivals and events held at Jemaa el Fna Square throughout the year. One of the most notable is the Marrakech Popular Arts Festival, which takes place in June and features traditional music, dance, and storytelling performances. Additionally, other events such as the Marrakech Food Festival, the Marrakech International Book Fair are also held in the square.
