We spent more than 2 months in Cotonou, Benin, and there was always one guarantee. When the wind acted up, heavy rain was only a few minutes behind.
We never got wind without the rain. The storms didn’t always last long, but they were dramatic.
The further west we traveled along this part of the African coast, the less this effect happened. But in Cotonou, you always knew when a storm was imminent.

By the way, Benin is an awesome country and well worth a visit. In fact, Benin-Togo-Ghana makes a great trip around a prime part of West Africa.
