LIVE – Yum or Yuck? A Mysterious Vietnamese Snack – Open It With Me

Find out what this Vietnamese snack is along with me. I have no idea. Well, I have a guess, but These types of leaves can contain many things (not all have been tasty to me) and I have never seen this configuration before.

Even the construction of them is a new – and clever – experience. The fancy leaf box should be a fun food surprise – I hope.

This is a very spontaneous live stream – completely unplanned, but fun.

A little old lady approached me while I was sitting at my favorite coffee bar – she was selling these Vietnamese, leaf-wrapped mystery snacks. I had to buy a pack – just to find out what they were.

One of the things I enjoy most about traveling is trying new foods – even better when they’re a surprise, usually. Let’s see how this one goes.

Hey, Everyone!

I just bought this – just so you know I’m here – I just bought this from this nice lady over here.

She came in selling them and I can see she’s working a deal over there. She’s in the red jacket.

I don’t have my tripod, I don’t have my mic. I don’t have anything but I just bought this and I have no idea what it is and I’m going to open it up. I’m going to try opening it up in front of you to find out this is.

Really, I have no idea what I just got so I’m going to open it. This is an absolutely, obviously, an absolutely spontaneous LIVE – nothing planned about this. I’m just sitting in the coffee bar.

Oh, okay. We’ve got a gelatinous rice kind of thing.

Oh, we’ve got a little toothpick. I’m trying to do this one-handed because I really, I don’t have my phone, I don’t have my tripod, or anything with me.

So you get to see me do a one-handed – okay, okay – well, we’ve got the outside leaf off.

And there’s another little toothpick. And look there’s a whole little toothpick structure underneath too see.

Oh, great. Now my fingers are sticky. I’m gonna just have to touch the phone with sticky fingers. No, I’m just, Tim and I had different meals this morning, this afternoon, because I didn’t feel like something with bread, and he did, and he didn’t want noodles.

So, okay, so we got this okay.

Okay, so usually these things in the in the leaves like this are somewhat gelatinous.

I’m showing you that because I’m pulling it out like that it looks like there’s various a little bits of fruit and vegetable in there.

Okay, and you’re seeing this like – I like to do all these LIVES you’re seeing this right along with me. I’ve never done one of these before. I got a whole little bag of them, so I hope they’re good. I probably overpaid a little, I’m not sure.

Let’s see if I can get the camera to refocus. Okay, okay. I’m gonna take a bite of this and, let me get a moment here. Forgive my fingers, but yeah, there we go, to get my phone all sticky – but I’ll take a bite of it and we’ll see how it goes.

Okay, okay. It’s definitely sweet. That’s probably a little bit like yellow bean paste, or something like that in there, which is generally done sweet and dessert-like. Then those stringy things I don’t know they could be. It’s something that appears a lot here, but I’m not sure what it is. So the stringy things just add texture to it. It’s like glutinous rice with yellow bean paste and little vegetable.

So I will tell you I am very experimental when it comes to food. You sit there and say you know I got this, and I’ll say ‘I’ll try it.’ I try almost everything. I just went and got lunch and the place I normally go, that I intended to go to, was closed. They were doing a little renovation. So I walked into the next place over and just said give me one.

I had no idea what they made.

Although there’s a safe bet around here, if it’s a simple lunch stand type of thing, it’s probably noodles with some meat and a little bit of sauce probably and whatever else they toss in it. So it’s a fairly safe bet around here.

But I am very prone to just saying I don’t know what they have, I don’t know what their specialty is, I don’t know what they’re making, but I’ll just take one. So that’s what I did with this, and so we have this.

But I am an absolute advocate of trying everything. Just try it, you never know. If i didn’t like it what’s the worst? I just say, ooh yuck, and don’t eat it, you know.

So that’s it. This is a very short LIVE because I am just simply saying hi everyone, and I wanted to show you these. So let me show you a picture of the the fancy product again.

See, this is it when it’s all wrapped up neat and nice with the little toothpicks holding it together. This is after the fact.

So thanks for joining me. It’s gonna be a simple little LIVE today, and I’ll see you next time.

Bye.
