Eat the Street Food! That’s how you get to try new things, meet local people, practice your communication skills and contribute to the local economy.
Mamgo was one of 2 people dealing in breakfast near our hotel. He had coconut donuts and Touba coffee – a dangerously delicious combination.

Mamgo is on the little island past the main island of Saint Louis, just left of the little bridge (the restored bridge) in front of the Boulangerie, across the street from Le Chateau.
In the US I don’t even care for most things with coconut, but here they are masters of keeping it light and tasty.
Always try the local food, the street food or whatever they offer. Try it even if it has ingredients you don’t usually like. Often flavors are different from what you know and you may become a fan.
Don’t miss out. Try it.

We really like here
in Saint Louis though
this is our last day in Saint Louis.
We are actually across the
river, not on Saint Louis proper.
And I’m gonna give you a little flavor
of the the neighborhood, which
you’re gonna get anyways,
as we are, pardon, show you all this.
But one of the things I am gonna miss
is in the mornings we don’t
have breakfast at the hotel.
So what I do is I come
to one of two places
and this is Mamgo our coconut donut dealer
in the neighborhood.
And he sells coconut
donuts and Touba coffee.
And he just generally sets me up
and I am prepared for the morning.
And I will be honest, he
speaks French and Wolof
and we don’t have too
much language in common
although one of his
friends speaks some English
and actually a little Spanish.
And when he’s around, it’s
a little easier. (laughs)
See, and he passes donuts
off like they’re nothing.
So these actually,
can I get another shot of the donuts?
(Mamgo speaking indistinctly)
Yeah, now everyone’s trying
to get in on the act.
But I just wanted to show
the donuts real quick.
- [Mamgo] Wa, wa, wa.
- So there, those are the coconut donuts.
And part of my reason,
part of my reasoning
for telling you this
is when you see sellers
on the side of the road selling stuff,
don’t be afraid to try it.
This is good stuff.
This is better breakfast
than you’ll get at Starbucks.
And I just wanted to introduce you.
So this is my friend, Mamgo.
And (laughs).
And he’s sitting here feeling awkward
about being on YouTube,
but I really appreciate it.
And so that’s it.
I just wanted to share one of the things
I really liked about Saint Louis.
And as usual, I’m gonna
say, thanks for joining us.
Don’t forget to like and subscribe
and we’ll see you next time.
(Mamgo speaking indistinctly)
Okay.
